ABOUT US

Lied to by religion and the educational system, deceived by money and psychology, corrupted by lust and ambition, and shattered by failing his own "moral goodness", Doug Warwick found himself a miserable and broken man.  The Lord sent a preacher of righteousness to share the Gospel of grace with him.  Drawn by the love and forgiveness of God, Doug surrendered his life to the Lord Jesus Christ and was made a new creature, reconciled to his Creator.  The weight of sin was lifted but the weight of guilt remained - guilt over having wasted so much time serving himself rather than serving the Lord.  A faithful brother comforted Doug with Joel 2:25 ("I will restore to you the years that the locust has eaten...") and encouraged him to jump with both feet into the Word of God.  Having fallen in love with the Truth (John 17:17), that is exactly what Doug did!  The Lord gave his eager servant an insatiable hunger and thirst for righteousness and began to teach him His very words.

Calvary Ahwatukee started as a home fellowship in the home of Doug and Monica Warwick in 1998.  The Lord's grateful and devoted servants are resolved to finish well their course with joy.

VISION

We desire to follow Jesus Christ and to be obedient to Him by making disciples of all nations (Matt. 28:18-20). We preach Christ crucified and risen.  Jesus is the power of God and the wisdom of God (1 Cor 1:23-24).  We desire to share the Gospel, the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believes (Rom 1:16), with anyone who will listen, both with our words and with our lives.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

Calvary Ahwatukee is a fellowship of believers in the Lordship of Jesus Christ (John 6:28-29).  Our supreme desire is to know Christ and to be conformed into his image by the power of the Holy Spirit.  We are a non-denominational, Evangelical, Christian church.

We believe in the inspired, inerrant, and infallible Word of God.  Therefore, we teach God’s Word, verse by verse.

We believe that the Cross of Jesus is the power of God. Therefore, the teachings of this fellowship centers around the Cross.

We believe that Jesus was delivered to the Cross for our transgressions and raised again by our Father for our justification. Therefore, we rejoice in the finished work of salvation by Jesus.

We believe that salvation is a gift to us through God’s grace and that the gifts and calling of God are without repentance. Therefore, we rejoice in the security of the believer in Christ.

We believe that love is the fruit of the Holy Spirit.  Therefore, we abide under His guidance that we may bear that fruit.

We believe that the bodily resurrection of Jesus not only testifies of our atonement but also guarantees that there is a day of Judgement coming upon the whole world.  Therefore, we look for Jesus to come imminently to the clouds to deliver the Church from the wrath to come.

We believe in the Lord’s Supper as a remembrance of the finished work of Jesus.  Therefore, we celebrate the Lord's Supper on the first Sunday of each month as we await His return.

We believe in the diversities of operations of the Holy Spirit by God. Therefore, we pray for the sick for healing, we pray with the unbeliever for salvation, we pray with the backslider for repentance, and we pray for those who are seeking the power to be a witness for Christ by the anointing of the Holy Spirit.

We believe that we are not to neglect the assembling of ourselves together.

PHILOSOPHY OF MINISTRY

The Gospel

We have a Maker.  The Creator God exists and can be known.  He has revealed Himself by His written Word (the Bible).

The One True and Living God is relational and loves us.  He wants a personal relationship with each of us.  That relationship is built on these things God wants from us:

1. To believe Him

All God has ever wanted from man is that we believe Him.  We believe Him when we love and obey Him.  The instruction/guidance God has given to us is loving and for our good.  His way is comforting and leads to life, our ways are painful and lead to death.

2. Our sin

Our not believing (disobeying) Him is called sin.  Sin separates us from our loving Creator.  When we have a change of heart and mind, choosing to believe Him, God wants our sin so He can nail it to the Cross of Jesus Christ, where His Son paid the penalty for our sin.  With our sin forgiven and removed, we are reconciled to God and made new creatures by the grace of God.  He then gives us an unspeakable gift – the eternal life of Jesus Christ.

3. To follow Him

Once we are reconciled to God, He wants us to follow Him every day.  He will teach us how to live lives pleasing to Him – loving Him and loving others.  His love and grace will change us as we follow Him.

     Scriptures:

The Word of God

The Author of the Bible (The Word of God) is God, not man.  As such, it is inspired (God-breathed), inerrant (without error), infallible (cannot fail), and eternal.  And as such, The Author is the Teacher and Interpreter of His words;  Scripture interprets Scripture, man does not!

The Word of God is absolute and unchanging truth.  As such, it is our final authority in the matters of the heart, the mind, and the spirit.

     Scriptures:

Biblical Expositional

In our days, there is a famine of the Word of God (Amos 8:11), both in terms of the teaching of sound doctrine and in the consideration and consenting to it by hearers.  Those who do not want to hear what God has to say (sound doctrine) have sought out teachers that will tickle their ears.

Our calling is to preach and teach the Word of God and to make disciples/learners/followers of Jesus Christ.  We labor to provide balanced, spiritually-nutritious, heart-healthy meals through expositional verse-by-verse teaching of the entire counsel of God, from Genesis 1:1 to Revelation 22:21.  We teach the Bible, not books about the Bible.  We teach the words of God, not the words of men.

We provide a sanctuary of worship for those seeking truth, hope, peace, and love in midst of a world/society marred by deception, hopelessness, despair, contention, strife, and hate.

The Holy Spirit is a Person.  The ministry of God the Holy Spirit is captured in Scripture with three Greek prepositions:
  1. para…with, alongside
  2. en…in
  3. epi…upon

As the Witness of Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit comes alongside us, is with us, to testify of Jesus.  When we believe, the Holy Spirit indwells us, sealing us as children of God.  We then are also witnesses of Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit comes upon us to empower us to be witnesses.

The Holy Spirit is our Comforter, Teacher, and Guide.  He is the power of God upon our lives.

Leadership:  Servanthood

Jesus taught that the greatest in kingdom is servant of all.  He came as the humble Servant of God.  Therefore, the model for a church leader is to be a humble servant, not a proud lord.

Marriage

Man is created in the image of God.  Man is male and female.  God instituted marriage and defined it as one man and one woman until death.

Man has no right to change what God has instituted.
